Alexander "Aleck" (Famous) BOARMAN

December 10, 1839 - August 30, 1916

Born in Yazoo City, Mississippi, he moved with his father to Louisiana in 1845. He was a graduate of the University of Kentucky at Lexington, Kentucky in 1860. When the Civil War broke out, Aleck joined the Army of Northern Virginia. After a year he was promoted to Captain. He also served as the acting assistant Adjutant-General in the battle of Winchester. After the war he became a lawyer, being admitted to the bar in 1866. The same year he was also elected as mayor of Shreveport. He served as city attorney from 1868 to 1872. He made an unsuccessful run for Secretary of State of Louisiana in 1872. He became U S Representative from 1872 to 1873, but lost he was not renominated. From 1877 to 1881 he served as judge to the 10th Judicial Circuit of Louisiana. On May 18, 1881 he was confirmed by the United States Senate for a new seat on the District Court for the Western District of Louisiana, a position he kept until he died in 1916.
