Born in Wilson County, Tennessee, December 12, 1806. Son of Jeremiah Tucker, pioneer Baptist preacher, In 1818 he moved with his parents to Limestone County, Alabama. Baptize3d at 14 years of age. Married in 1828; ordained to preach in 1829. First pastorate was Round Island and Poplar Creek churches, in Alabama. In 1835 he moved to Columbus, (Lowndes County) Mississippi, and soon organized a Baptist church with 16 members, which grew within five years to 160 members. During this period he baptized about 300 converts in that territory, and erected a commodious church house in Columbus. In 1858 he became pastor at Marshall, (Harrison County) Texas. During his four year pastorate, he founded the church at Jefferson, (Marion County) Texas. Was next pastor of First church, Houston (Harris County), four years. In 1861, he accepted a call to First Church, Shreveport. In March 1862, he resigned, and served in the Confederate army, with the rank of Major. Following the war he was engaged for a while in business in New Orleans. About 1872 he moved to his son's home in Keachie, Louisiana. Served two years as Financial Secretary of Keachie College, and two years as missionary, Grand Cane Association. In Mississippi he was moderator of two associations, and president of the State Convention. President of the Louisiana Convention in 1878. He baptized about 1,200 converts. He died aged 77.
