He enlisted May 9, 1861, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He remained present for duty on Company Muster Rolls except for the following: July - August 1861 Company Muster Roll listed as sick in hospital at Williamsburg, Virginia; Company Muster Roll for July - August 1862 listed him as absent due to wounds received on August 30, 1862, at Manassas, Virginia; Company Muster Roll for July - August 1863, listed him as absent due to wounds received at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania on July 2, 1863; Company Muster Roll for September - October 1863, listed as in the hospital with wounds; Company Muster Roll for November - December 1863, listed as absent with wounds. The Company Muster Roll for January - February 1864, listed him as discharged on February 10, 1864, from disability from the wounds he received at Gettysburg.
