From Louisiana Archives ~ Harrell, A S, Private Company G, 18th Battalion Louisiana Cavalry. Appears on Roll of Prisoners of War, Paroled at Gainesville, Alabama, May 12, 1865. Residence St Helena Parish, Louisiana.
Mrs N A Nesom Harrell applied for widows pension Reel: CP1.62 -- Microdex 2 -- Sequence 16
18th Battalion, Louisiana Cavalry 18th Cavalry Battalion [also called 10th Battalion] was organized in November, 1864, with seven companies of Powers' Louisiana & Mississippi Cavalry Regiment. Attached to the Department of Alabama, Mississippi & East Louisiana, it saw light action in Alabama & was included in the surrender on May 4, 1865. Lieutenant Colonel Haley M Carter & Major J Newton Sherburne were its commanders. 141 Men
