From Louisiana Archives ~ Stockwell, Thomas, Private Company F, 3rd (Wingfield's) Louisiana Cavalry. Enlisted May 13, 1862, Camp Moore, Louisiana. Roll not dated, Absent without leave. Roll dated Septtember 19, 1862, Detached service. Federal Rolls of Prisoners of War, Captured October 9, 1862, near Wilson's Ferry, Louisiana. Received New Orleans, Louisiana, from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, October 14, 1862. Transferred to Ship Island, Mississippi, October 20, 1864. Sent to Fort Columbus, New York Harbor, November 16, 1864. Forwarded to Elmira, New York, November 20, 1864. On Roll dated Elmira, New York, November 30, 1864, desirous of taking the Oath of Allegiance to U S. Remarks: Was Conscripted July 30, 1864. Was captured at his home, where he had been for several weeks, having deserted his command previously. Has relatives residing in Illinois, where he desires to go. Released on Oath of Allegiance to U S, May 29, 1865. Residence Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Complexion florid, hair red, eyes blue, height 5 feet 6 1/2 inches.
