1842 - January 19, 1887
He enlisted in New Orleans, Louisiana, March 5, 1862, for 90 days. The Company Muster Roll for May - June 1862 listed him as sick in the hospital. On July 3, 1862, he was camped near Tupelo, Mississippi, when the Medical Board of Examiners rendered a decision that Private Phillips should be discharged. His Company Commander, Captain J.L. Lyons signed the Certificate of Discharge on July 3, 1862. The letter also indicated Private Phillips was born in Kingston, Jamaica, and that at the time of discharge he was 20 years old.
