The Sabine Index - Ensign William (Billy) Fore Middleton, age 22, son of Dr and Mrs J M Middleton of Many, was killed when his plane crashed near Greenville, Ohio, April 4. Funeral services were held at St.John's Catholic church, Many, at 2 pm Saturday, April 8.

Ensign Middleton was a graduate of Many high school. He was a valued employee of the Peoples State Bank for four years and was scoutmaster of Troop NO. 80 Boy Scouts for one year. He volunteered for service in the Naval Air Corps in July, 1942, receiving his training at the following bases: civilian pilot training at Jones County Junior College, Ellisvile, Miss.; U S Navy Preflight School, Chapel Hill, N C; U S Naval Air Station, Glenview, Ill; U S Naval Air Training Center, Corpus Christi, Texas; U S Naval Air Training Center, Kingsville, Texas. He received his wings from U S Naval Air Training Center, Corpus Christi, Texas, August, 1943 and was assigned to the Ferry Command at Port Columbus, Ohio.

Ensign Middleton is survived by his parents, Dr and Mrs J M Middleton; five sister, Miss Elizabeth Middleton of New Orleans, Misses Leella and Ruth Middleton of Many, Miss Marguerite Middleton of Shreveport, and Mrs W D Truluck of Arcadia; three brothers, Charles Middleton of Many, J S Middleton of Alexandria, and J M Middleton, Jr, Waco, Texas; two nephews, PFC Joel S Middleton, Jr, of Fort Sill, Okla, and Randolph Middleton of Alexandria; nieces, Misses Marguerite and Emily Middleton of Waco, Texas, Miss Marian Middleton of Alexandria.
