Captain Louisiana State Militia
2nd troop Cavalry
During the early years of this century, robbery and murder were common occurrences on the roads of the North Louisiana country uplands. It was necessary to maintain law and order on these roads by the use of the State Militia. Most of the militia companies in these years were cavalry companies. The Second Troop Cavalry from DeSoto Parish was used to maintain law and order on the Natchez Trace West, from Natchitoches to Vidalia, La., on the Mississippi River.
