He enlisted December 24, 1920. The Muster Roll of Officers & Enlisted Men of the US Marine Corps, March 1 - 31, 1921, listed him as in Training Camp, Parris Island, South Carolina, Battalion C, Marine Barracks. The Muster Rolls for April 1 - July 31, 1921, listed him as attached to 10th Company, 4th Regiment, Marine Barracks, Monte Cristi, Dominican Republic. The Muster Roll for September 1 - 30, 1921, listed him as in the Field Hospital, Santiago, Dominican Republic. The Muster Roll for October 1 - 31, 1921, listed him as sick in the Field Hospital, Santiago, Dominican Republic with a notation that he died at 2:50 p.m., October 7, 1921. The notation reported "death was caused by accidental shot (pistol) in the line of duty. Would have been recommended for character excellent had he been discharged." His body was shipped to the Quartermaster Depot for return to the United States.
