He enlisted on October 5, 1862, at Camp Pratt, Louisiana (Iberia Parish). The Company Muster Roll for January-February 1863, listed him as sick in the hospital in New Iberia since February 18, 1863. He returned to duty shortly afterward. The Company Muster Roll for January-February 1864 listed him as absent on 30-days furlough beginning February 15, 1864.
"By Special Order, Headquarters District of W. Louisiana, dated Alexandria November 12, 1863, the following changes be made in Mouton's Brigade to take effect November 1, 1863; The 18th Regiment Louisiana Infantry to be consolidated into a battalion of six companies. The Yellow Jacket Battalion (also known as the 10th Battalion Louisiana Infantry) to be consolidated into a battalion of four companies. The two battalions thus formed to be consolidated into one regiment of ___ companies to be known as the Consolidated 18th Regiment and Yellow Jacket Battalions Louisiana Infantry."
