Obituary from the Shreveport Times newspaper, Aug. 3, 1970, Monday, p. 10-A:

Rites Today for GI Killed in S. Korea

Funeral services for Army Spec. 4 Truley L. George, 20, of Mansfield and former Shreveport resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the First Baptist Church in Mansfield.

Dr. George Ritchie, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Mansfield, will conduct the services. Burial with military rites will be in Mitchell Cemetery at Mitchell under the direction of Drewett Funeral Home in Mansfield.

He was killed July 20 at Masan, Korea, where he was driving an Army truck and attempted to rescue an Army truck stranded on a bridge during a flash flood. The truck George was driving struck an obstacle on the bridge in the rescue attempt and he and several other soldiers on his truck fell into the flood waters.

A native of Shreveport, George lived in Mansfield about 10 years before joining the Army. He was a graduate of Mansfield High School.

The young soldier was killed only five days before his 21st birthday and only a few days before his scheduled return to the United States, according to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Junies George of Route 1 Keithville.

In addition to his parents, Spec. George is survived by two brothers Dwayne George and Joe George, both of Keithville.
