He was born in Hines County, Mississippi

He enlisted April 19, 1862, in Columbia, Louisiana. He was captured at Vicksburg, Mississippi on July 4, 1863 after Confederate Forces surrendered. He was paroled at Vicksburg on July 9, 1863. His name appeared on a Roll of Prisoners of War after Confederate forces surrendered in New Orleans, Louisiana on May 26, 1865. He was paroled in Monroe, Louisiana on June 13, 1865.
