He enlisted April 19, 1862, in Columbia, Louisiana. On July 16, 1863, his name appeared on a Roll of Prisoners of War In The Hospital at Vicksburg, Mississippi captured on July 4, 1863. He was paroled at Vicksburg on July 13, 1863. On March 29, 1864, his name appeared on a list of Officers & Men of the 31st Regiment Louisiana Infantry that reported in camp for exchange at Vienna, Louisiana. His name appeared on a Roll of Prisoners of War after Confederate forces surrendered in New Orleans, Louisiana on May 26, 1865. He was paroled at Monroe, Louisiana on June 13, 1865.
