(Note: His headstone listed his year of birth as 1865; however, his obituary listed his year of birth as 1866, and documents in various genealogy websites listed his year of birth as 1864.)
He served in various public offices such as Vernon Parish Tax Assessor, Vernon Parish Sheriff, and State Senator representing Sabine and Vernon Parishes. The dates he filled those offices vary depending on which source is used.
~ 1893-1897 - Vernon Parish Tax Assessor
~ 1904-1908 - State Senator, Sabine & Vernon Parishes
~ 1908-1912 - Sheriff, Vernon Parish
~ 1924-1939 - State Senator, Sabine & Vernon Parishes (died while in office)
~ 1934 - State Senate, President Pro Tempore while serving as the interim Lieutenant Governor until special election was held
All the sources reviewed seemed to agree that he was a land speculator during breaks from public office.
