Vernon Durand Smith of Sheridan, Arkansas was born September 6, 1937, in Spearsville, Louisiana, the son of the late John Lee and Delma Wall Smith. He had retired from International Paper Company, was of the Baptist faith and had served in the United States Army. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching sports, especially baseball, and traveling with his wife.

Vernon died Monday, April 13, 2015 at Hospice Home Care in Little Rock, at the age of 77.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his only child, Jeffrey Durand Smith who passed away October 10, 2014.

Survivors: wife of 55 years, Emma Jean “Jeannie” Smith of Sheridan; brothers, John “Wimp” Smith of Hawaii, Lyle Smith of Fayetteville, and Carl Smith of Texas and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Graveside service will be 11:30 A.M., Thursday, April 16, 2015 at Fellowship Cemetery in Dubach, Louisiana with Bro. Connie Smith officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday.

Pallbearers are Rick Hays, Marvin Matlock, Mark Hays, Donald Duke, Chris Stanton, Billy Hammons and David Smith.
