Funeral services for Derward Denon Boatright, 55, of Houston, Tex., formerly of Spearsville, were held at 2 p.m. Jan. 26 in the Mt. Union Baptist Church near Spearsville. The Rev. Forrest Post officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery under the directions of Farrar Funeral Home of Farmerville. Mr. Boatright died Jan. 22 in his Houston home after a brief illness. He was a native of Union Parish and he moved to Houston 22 years ago. Mr. Boatright was also a pipe fitter, a World War II veteran and a member of the Baptist Church. Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Eula Denton, Haughton; two sons, Freddie Boatright and Randy Boatright, both of Houston; two daughters, Mrs. Linda Aubrey and Mrs. Beth McTaggart, both of Houston; two brothers, Delwyn C. Boatright, Hooks, Tex. and Joan Boatright, Haughton; a sister, Mrs. Wilmer Springer, Bossier City; nine grandchildren. Pallbearers were Melvin Stone, Glover Rockett, Kenneth Wade, Percy Wade, Rannie Terral and Purvis Christian. (The Gazette - Farmerville, Louisiana - February 10, 1977)
