He enlisted June 4, 1861, at Camp Moore, Louisiana. His name appeared on a list for CSA General Hospital, Charlottesville, Virginia for fever, July 19, 1861 – August 26, 1861. The Company Muster Roll for March-April 1863 listed him as missing since April 29, 1863. Another Company Muster Roll for March-April 1863 listed him to be in an exchange of Prisoners in June 1863. On April 29, 1863, his name appeared on a list for Parole of Prisoners of War, Office of the Provost Marshal General, Army of the Potomac, as being sent to Old Capitol Prison, Washington, DC. The list indicated he was captured at Fredericksburg, Virginia on April 29, 1863. On May 10, 1863, his name appeared on a Roll of Prisoners of War as paroled at Old Capitol Prison. The Company Muster Rolls for May-October 1863 reported he was wounded and left at Newton’s Crossing, Virginia after a leg amputation. His name appeared on a Hospital Muster Roll on December 31, 1863, for General Hospital, Staunton, Virginia as attached to the hospital on November 29, 1863, due to a leg amputation. A Company Muster Roll for January-February 1864 listed him as disabled. His name appeared on a Register of The Invalid Corps as retired on April 1, 1864. His name appeared on a list for CSA Hospital, Charlottesville, Virginia as being admitted on April 13, 1864, with a left leg amputation and that he was transferred May 9, 1864, to Lynchburg, Virginia. There was a notation that his left leg had been amputated above the knee. His name appeared on a Register of Beneficiaries of the Association for the Relief of Maimed Soldiers, Richmond, Virginia reporting he underwent surgery on his thigh on June 13, 1863. On July 4, 1864, he was admitted to Receiving & Wayside Hospital, General Hospital No. 9, Richmond, Virginia. The disposition was listed as Retired on April 1, 1864, due to his wound. On July 14, 1864, he was transferred from a Richmond, Virginia hospital to Charlottesville, Virginia arriving on July 15, 1864. His name appeared on a Register of CSA General Hospital, Charlottesville, Virginia as admitted on July 15, 1864, due to left leg amputation with a notation he was on the Retired List. His name appeared on a Report of Sick & Wounded, General Hospital, Charlottesville, Virginia on August 14, 1864, with a notation he was on the Retired List in transit on August 12, 1864. Company Muster Rolls for May-August 1864 listed his status as retired. Pay records indicated he was paid $44 on July 7, 1864, for the period of March 1, 1864, through June 30, 1864.
