He enlisted on May 12, 1862 at an unspecified location. He re-enlisted on May 23, 1862 at Vicksburg, Mississippi. The Company Muster Roll for May-June 1862 listed him as sick at Edwards Depot (near Vicksburg) since June 16, 1982. His name appeared on a Roll of Prisoners of War after Confederate forces surrendered at Vicksburg, Mississippi on July 4, 1863. He was paroled at Vicksburg on July 10, 1863. His name appeared on a Roll of Prisoners of War after Confederate forces surrendered in New Orleans, Louisiana on May 26, 1865. He was paroled in Natchitoches, Louisiana on June 14, 1865.
