He enlisted March 14, 1862 at New Orleans, Louisiana. Another muster record indicated he enlisted at Shreveport, Louisiana on March 4, 1862, and mustered in at New Orleans, Louisiana. The Company Muster Roll for March-June 1862 listed him as sick and in the hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. The Company Muster Rolls for November-December 1862 and January-February 1863 listed him as absent without leave. The Company Muster Rolls for July-October 1863 reported him as sick and in the hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. His name appeared on a Hospital Muster Roll, General Hospital, Lauderdale Springs, Mississippi as attached to the hospital as a guard on June 15, 1863. The Company Muster Rolls for January-April 1864 listed him as sick and in the hospital in Jackson, Mississippi and under Surgeon's orders. The Company Muster Rolls for September 1864 - February 1865 reported him sick in the Jackson, Mississippi hospital. His name appeared on a Roll of Prisoners of War after Confederate forces surrendered at New Orleans on May 26, 1865. He was paroled at Natchitoches on June 13, 1865.
