Mooringsport, LA/Bakersfield, CA - Graveside services celebrating the life of Charles "Charlie" Barfield, age 84 will be held at 4:00 PM, Saturday, September 8, 2012 at Mooringsport Memorial Gardens, Mooringsport, LA under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home, Vivian, LA
Charlie was born March 29, 1928 in Mooringsport, LA and passed away on August 7, 2012 at his residence in Bakersfield, CA. After finishing high school at the age of 16, he earned Bachelor Degrees in Petroleum Engineering and Mathematics at the University of Houston, was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Bakersfield and was a self-employed Petroleum Engineer. Charlie was a favorite of his grandfather and grandmother, Charles Levi and Sallie Edna Wilgus, who are buried in the Old Mooringsport Cemetery. He was a wonderful and caring brother and father.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Heck and Viola Wilgus Barfield and sister Margaret Moore and husband, Harold. He is survived by his son, Chuck Barfield of Sutter Creek, CA, daughters, Becky Love, Alice Lastrapes and husband, Dan of Baton Rouge, LA, and Kathi Knowles and husband, Brian of Long Beach, CA; sister, Esther Laidlaw and husband, Robert of Calgary Alberta, Canada, and brother, J.R. "Dick" Barfield and wife, Ronnie of The Woodlands, TX. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Charlie's favorite charities: Bakersfield Scottish Rite Bodies, 1920 18th Street, Bakersfield, CA, 93301-4206, Please Designate "Shriners Children's Hospital of LA" or "Scottish Rite Masons of CA", or to charity of donors choice.
