ilbert (Gil) Searcy
Bullard, TX - Gilbert (Gil) Searcy, 79, of Bullard, Texas went to be with his Lord on Monday, November 20, 2017 surrounded by his family.
Gil was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on March 28, 1938 to Sherwood and Sarah (Snookie) Searcy, and grew up in Mooringsport, Louisiana. He married Marcy (Elder) Searcy on September 7, 1961. Gil impacted many lives through his service in the church and as a coach in several sports spanning many ages. He served as a deacon in churches in Louisiana and Texas for more than 30 years, and also served in the U.S. Air Force during the Viet Nam War. He loved playing golf in his retirement years with family and friends, and when asked by his grandkids if he has something, he'd reply "do you have a quarter?"
He loved his family deeply and served his Lord faithfully over the years. Among many things, he is remembered as a gentle, gracious man who was greatly respected by all who knew him well.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 56 years, Marcy Searcy; sons, Wes Searcy and wife Colleen of Flower Mound, Gil Searcy and wife Denise of Bullard; daughter, Holly Searcy of Jacksonville. He is survived by his grandchildren, Sarah Cargill, Timothy Cargill, Ashley Searcy, Jake Searcy, Callie Cargill, Sam Searcy and Tate Searcy; siblings, Alan Searcy and wife Dannie of Shreveport, LA and Gail Sumrall and husband Mitchell of West Monroe, LA.
A graveside service is scheduled at 1 o'clock in the afternoon Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Mooringsport, Louisiana. Services are under the direction of Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville. Visitation will begin on Friday, November 24, 2017 and friends are cordially invited to visit with Gil's family from 5 to 7 o'clock in the evening at Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
Grandsons and longtime friends, Charles Anthony, Dickie Smith and Ray Mason will serve as honorary pallbearers.
