Harry Hodge, Jr THOMPSON

September 29, 1934 - April 9, 2016

Visitation for Harry Hodge Thompson, Jr. will be Tuesday, April 12, 5-8 pm at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel, Shreveport, LA. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 13, at 10:00 AM with Reverend Tony Nations officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Park West, Shreveport, LA.

Harry entered into eternity on Saturday, April 9, 2016 with his sweetheart Rosie by his side and a host of children and grandchildren. He was a retired member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 141, serving as an instructor in the apprenticeship program, teaching his three sons and grandsons. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, and El Karubah Shriner, and a 60 year member of the W. H. Booth Lodge #380. He lovingly dedicated his time to God through his service at Central Christian Church where he was a member for 29 years and served as an Elder and Board Chairman. He served his country honorably in the United States Air Force from 1952-1956. Upon his retirement from pipefitting, he discovered a love for golfing and enjoyed many good times with the El Karubah Golf Unit. He was actively involved with El Karubah Arab Unit, participating in the circus, parades, and local festivals.

Harry was born on September 29, 1934 in Shreveport, LA to parents Sophie Risk and Harry Hodge Thompson, Sr. He was preceded in death by his parents and two grandsons, Brandon Hardey and Trenton Thompson. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Rosemary Hurt Thompson, and three sons, David Thompson and wife, Pam, Kenny Thompson, Matthew Sherrod, and two daughters, Wanda Vandine and husband Warren, Angela Hardey and husband Byron. Harry has two sisters, Betty Hyatt, and Linda Burley. Harry, also known as "Grandpa", has a wonderful legacy of 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

Harry endured all earthly diseases he faced with a kind heart and acceptance, never complaining. He had a love for the Savior Jesus Christ, and accepted his physical challenges with humility and dignity. He touched many lives young and old with his pipe trade knowledge. He was a source of inspiration, admiration and humor, and his positive attitude and gentle demeanor will forever remain in our hearts. Harry always loved New Year's Eve, and would stay up until midnight just to watch the Mirror Ball Fall in Times Square, New York, just to give "Rosie" a kiss and welcome in the New Year. A favorite scripture that could be found in his coat pocket is John 14: 1-3.

Honoring Harry as pallbearers will be Leonard McLaurin, Waymon Vines, Lewis Pope, Billy St Claire, John Gustafson and B. J. Coker
