Dorris Sue Slater was born February 28, 1931 in Seoul, Korea and passed away peacefully, January 15, 2021 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Dorris loved the Lord and enjoyed being active in the church. She loved to travel the world especially with her beloved husband, Lawrence T. Slater. She met Lawrence, a civil engineer working in Korea, one day when he left his wallet at home and was unable to pay for his meal at a restaurant. Dorris watched from her table and decided to help him out by paying for his meal. He got her address to repay her for the kindness and that is where the courtship began. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Dorris is preceded in death by her parents, Shin Mong Gul and Choi Kea Wael; loving husband, Lawrence T. Slater and brother, Jung Hwa Shin. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Frances Slater Rickel, and Sandra Slater Sisco and husband, Tim; granddaughter, Amanda Huston Holman; great-grandchildren, Reese and Addison Holman; sister, Yong Atkinson; niece, Shong Shepherd and husband, Kenny; cousins, Jay Shin, Peter Shin and Sandy Shin and numerous other nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at the Carpenter House and St. Joseph Hospice; her nurse, Jessica; social worker, Candace; Chaplin, Sam; tech, Shirley and her dedicated sitters, Pattie and Cathy for their care and kindness.
