HULL MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN/FIREMAN US Navy
October 20, 1970 - October 26, 2019
Sidney Joseph (Joey) Patterson of Bossier City, Louisiana, Age 49, was born October 20, 1970 and completed his earthly assignment October 26, 2019 in Atlanta, Georgia. He now rests in the arms of his loving Savior, Jesus.
Services for Joey will be held in the Boone Funeral Home chapel at 2156 Airline Drive, Bossier City, Louisiana Saturday, November 9, 2019 at 11:00am.; officiated by Dr Ed Gonzalez of Linwood New Life Ministries. Visitation will be Friday, November 8 5:00pm-7:00pm.
Shortly after graduating Parkway High School in 1989, Joey joined the US Navy and trained at the Naval Damage Control Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he excelled as a welder with a rank of E-3HT/Fireman. He went on to be assigned to the USS Prairie in Long Beach, California. During Operation Desert Shield, he received recognition for having completed over 300 assignments, including heading one of two crews that installed tomahawk cruise missile launch equipment aboard the USS Missouri and the USS New Jersey. Back on his home ship he received commendation for his part in aiding the recover/rescue of the men aboard the USS Midway after a below deck fire. He was also the recipient of the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon for serving during Operation Desert Shield.
At home, Joey was an adventurer at heart, loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was curious, fun loving, charismatic and artistic, appreciating beauty in all forms. There were no strangers to him, only future friends. He was kindhearted and compassionate, always ready to champion the underdog. He was a loving son, father, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend to many. He will be greatly missed.
Joey is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Willie Pat Patterson and Zula Belle Windham Patterson and his maternal grandparents, Curtis Harvey Henry and Nora Lee Sample Stovall.
Left to cherish his memory are his two sons, Patrick Justin Patterson and wife Callie; and Tanner Avery Patterson; grand-children, Parker Patterson and Peyton Patterson; parents, Sidney Van Patterson and Carolyn Sue Patterson; brother, Jeremy Patterson and wife Chenoa; niece, Presley Patterson; nephew, Zachary Beasley; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and wonderful friends that truly loved him.
Pallbearers and alternates include; Mike Patterson, Daniel Patterson, Joseph Patterson, Michael Patterson, Chase Patterson, Robby Oliver, Rick Hall and D J Hale.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Joey’s honor be made to the Linwood Baptist Food Bank Ministry at 1622 Midway Street, Shreveport, LA 71108 or the Shreveport Bossier Rescue Mission at 901 McNeil Street, Shreveport, LA 71101.
