He enlisted April 1, 1862. His name appeared on a Roll of Prisoners of War after Confederate forces capitulated at Vicksburg, Mississippi on July 4, 1863. He was paroled at Vicksburg on July 8, 1863. His name appeared on a Roll of Prisoners of War after Confederate forces surrendered in New Orleans, Louisiana on May 26, 1865. He was paroled in Natchitoches, Louisiana on June 8, 1865.
