He enlisted as a Private in Company C, 11th Battalion Louisiana Infantry on May 7, 1862, in Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana. The Company Muster Roll for November - December 1862, listed him as the 3rd Corporal. On November 3, 1863, the 11th Battalion Louisiana Infantry was consolidated with the Crescent Regiment Louisiana Infantry and the 16th Battalion Louisiana Infantry to form the Consolidated Crescent Regiment Louisiana Infantry. He was assigned to Company F.
