He enlisted March 12, 1862, at Brush Valley, Louisiana, at the age of 42. The Company Muster Roll for May 1 - October 31, 1862 listed him as sick in the hospital at Stanardsville, Virginia. The Company Muster Rolls for November - December 1862, January - February 1863, and March - April 1863 listed him as sick in the hospital. The Company Muster Roll for May - June 1863 listed he had died at Stanardsville, Virginia, date unknown. His name appeared on a record, dated March 28, 1865, indicated he had died in May 1862.
