He enlisted April 20, 1862, at Monroe, Louisiana. The January - February 1863 Company Muster Roll listed him as sick in camp. His name appeared on a roll of Prisoners of War after he was captured in a Vicksburg, Mississippi hospital on July 4, 1863, after Confederate forces capitulated. He was paroled in Vicksburg on July 16, 1863. His name appeared on a Roll of Prisoners of War after Confederate forces surrendered in New Orleans, Louisiana on May 26, 1865. He was paroled in Monroe, Louisiana on June 9, 1865
