LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 8, 2012, at a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Edmond Catholic Church for John LB Barras, 79, who died on Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at Lafayette General Medical Center surrounded by his family.

Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Lafayette.

Reverend Gilbert J. Dutel, Pastor of St. Edmond Catholic Church will be the Celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Olivia Patin and Elena East. Giftbearers will be Elena East and Isabelle "Sue" Credeur. Ricky Broussard, accompanied by Gabby Hildestad will sing for the services, "The Old Rugged Cross", "On Eagles' Wings", "Amazing Grace", "One Bread, One Body and "How Great Thou Art".

He is survived by his beloved wife, Lois B. Barras; two daughters, Sheila Roberts and her husband, Keith, and Tisa Patin and her husband, Jamie; six grandchildren, Justin Patin, Evan Patin and his wife, Olivia, Emily Roberts, Nicholas Roberts, Tara Fontenot and her husband, Haven, and Dustin Roberts and his wife, Lindsey; three great grandchildren, Parker Patin, Gavin Fontenot and Ily Roberts; five sisters, Elena East, Isabelle "Sue" Credeur, Mary LeBoeuf and her husband, Emile, Alberta Dore and her husband, Sylvan, and Mona Leleux and her husband, Perry; and four brothers, Ullysses Barras and his wife, Audrey, Roland Barras and his wife, Mitzi, Phillip Barras and his wife, Lula Mae, and Wade Barras and his wife, Gloria.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sydney and Lorena Reaux Barras; and one brother, Paul Barras.

John LB Barras was born on October 11, 1932, in Iberia Parish, Louisiana. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend to all who knew him. Mr. Barras enjoyed Bar-B-Queing, camping, cooking with his family, watching his grandchildren play sports and working on his tractor at the farm. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved telling jokes. Mr. Barras cherished his family, especially his wife, children and grandchildren and loved spending time with them. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Pallbearers will be Parker Patin, Jamie Patin, Keith Roberts, Justin Patin, Evan Patin, Emily Roberts, Nicholas Roberts, Tara Fontenot and Dustin Roberts.

A Rosary was recited on Thursday, June 7, 2012 at 7:00 PM in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN location.

Visitation was observed on Thursday from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM and will continue today from 8:00 AM until time of services.
