Dennis Cormier passed away peacefully surrounded by those who loved him most following a courageous battle with cancer in Lafayette on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at the age of 70.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; two daughters, Denise (Shawn) Hoss of Georgetown, TX, and Kim (Alan) Sneed of Corpus Christi, TX; four stepchildren, Wayne Bourque of Lafayette, Angie Gautreaux of Carencro, Dawn (Mitch) Aucoin of Lafayette, and Dana (Walter) Comeaux of Lafayette; three sisters, Karen (Michael) Sonnier of Lafayette, Doralene (Tommy) Letulier of Lafayette, and Lisa (Will) Mouton of Kaplan; two brothers, Rodrick (Glenda) Cormier of Little Elm, TX, and Scott (Leah) Cormier of Scott; 15 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sydney and Lily Cormier.
Dennis was born on December 26, 1947 in Jennings. He was a 1965 graduate of Northside High School, and served three years in the Army during the Vietnam War, where he earned a Bronze Star for his bravery in combat. He spent nearly 40 years in the grocery business as a sales representative and grocery store owner.
In his free time he enjoyed watching and playing golf, singing and playing the guitar. In his younger days he played on numerous adult softball teams.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 11:00 am in the Sunrise Chapel at Walters Funeral Home. Reverend Wentworth "Buck" Eaton will conduct the services. Visitation will be held Friday, September 14, 2018 from 3:00 - 8:00 pm, and resume on Saturday morning at 8:00 am until time of service. Interment will take place in Gallant Fields, the veteran's section of Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Dennis' grandsons, Chase Bourque, Jacob Gautreaux, Joshua Hoss, Riley Langlinais, Tanner Langlinais, Trevor Langlinais and Connor Sneed. Honorary pallbearers include Shawn Hoss, Alan Sneed, Mitch Aucoin, Walters Comeaux, III, and Wayne Bourque.
Special thanks to Acadian Hospice and Palliative Care, particularly Emily Carte and Chaplain Lisa, for their compassionate and loving care of Dennis.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made in Dennis' name to Acadian Hospice and Palliative Care, 458 Heymann Blvd., Lafayette, LA 70503.
