William Randle enlisted March 4, 1862, in Claiborne Parish, Louisiana. The Company Muster Roll for November - December 1862, reported he had been sent to the hospital in Oxford, Mississippi. On December 6, 1862, he was captured by Federal forces at the hospital. As a Prisoner of War he was sent to the Military Prison at Alton, Illinois, arriving on February 5, 1863 - his name appeared on a Roll of Prisoners of War at the Military Prisoner as being sent to City Point, Virginia for exchange. He was exchanged on April 1, 1863. His name appeared on the Company Muster Roll for March - April 1863, as present with his company. On December 16, 1864, he was captured near Nashville, Tennessee. He was sent to the Military Prison in Louisville, Kentucky on December 22, 1864, arriving on January 2, 1865. On January 4, 1865, he was sent to Camp Chase, Ohio arriving on January 6, 1865. On February 17, 1865, he was transferred to Point Lookout, Maryland for exchange. On February 25, 1865, he was admitted to Receiving and Wayside Hospital (General Hospital No. 9), Richmond, Virginia and on February 26, 1865, was transferred to General Hospital, Howard's Grove, Virginia. On February 28, 1865, he was transferred to Camp Lee and admitted to C.S.A. Hospital, Richmond, Virginia for Debilitas. He was furloughed on March 6, 1865, for 30 days.
