He enlisted in Homer, Louisiana on March 1, 1863. The Company Muster Roll for May - June 1863, showed he was left on the battlefield on May 16, 1863, and was now at Vicksburg, Mississippi. His name appeared on a Roll of Prisoners of War as being captured at Vicksburg, Mississippi on July 4, 1863, after Confederate forces in Vicksburg capitulated. The Company Muster Roll for May - June 1864, showed he had been captured at Vicksburg and that he had been paroled and was now west of the Mississippi River. The Company Muster Roll for July - August 1864 showed he was now near his home in Haynesville, Louisiana. His name appeared on another Roll of Prisoners of War showing his capture at Vicksburg on July 4, 1863. He was paroled at Vicksburg on July 6, 1863. His name appeared on a Roll of Prisoners of War on April 26, 1865, after Confederate forces surrendered. He was paroled at Greensboro, North Carolina in May 1865.
