He enlisted in Homer, Louisiana on March 1, 1863. Company Muster Rolls show he was sent to the hospital in Jackson, Mississippi on April 1, 1863. On August 28, 1863, he was detailed as a teamster. The Company Muster Rolls showed he was detailed to Major J. Bingham's Pioneer Corps at Camp Smith's Ferry on the Pearl River on October 31, 1863. The Company Muster Roll for May 1864, showed he was present. His name appeared on a Muster Roll as paroled April 26, 1865, at Greensboro, North Carolina with a notation as detailed as a teamster with the supply train. His name appeared on a roll as a Prisoner of War on May 4, 1865, after surrender at Citronelle, Alabama. He was paroled at Meridian, Mississippi on May 14, 1865.
