Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at an 11:00 am Mass of Christian Burial in St Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Church for Odon J Meche, age 90, who passed away Sunday, October 31, 2010 at 9:30 am at his residence in Prairie Basse.
Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Lafayette.
Musical selections will be provided by Valerie Andrus. The songs will be On Eagle's Wings, Amazing Grace, J'Irai La Voir Un Jour, Here I Am Lord, and Go Rest High On That Mountain.
Mr Meche was a native and lifelong resident of Prairie Basse. He retired with Lafayette Wood Works as a truck driver in 1985 after twenty years of service. He was also a cattle farmer. Mr. Meche was a veteran of the military having been a member of the US Army during World War II. He served as a heavy truck and ambulance driver in Northern Europe, Rhineland and Central Europe. Mr Meche was a parishioner of St Charles Borromeo Church in Grand Coteau.
Survivors include son Wayne J Meche and wife Elaine of Prairie Basse; daughters Carolyn S Stein and husband Robert of Prairie Basse and Priscilla Gaspard and husband Mitchell, of New Iberia; grandchildren Vanessa Domingue and husband Chris, Jr of Breaux Bridge, Neil J Meche of Lafayette, Edward Joseph Stein and wife Alicia, of Carencro, Todd Gaspard and wife Jana of Houston, Michael Gaspard of California and Kristi Gaspard of New Iberia; great grand children Jake Domingue, Grace Ella Stein, Sydney Gaspard, Mia Gaspard and Liam Gaspard and sister Greta Kidder of Arnaudville.
He was preceded in death by wife, Wilma Thomas Meche; parents Treville Meche and the former Elizabeth Stelly both natives of Prairie Basse; brother Cyrus Meche and sisters Ophelia Courville, Adele Comeaux, Virginia Cormier, Euchariste Breaux, Elmire Cormier, Mildred Guilbeau and Gertie Clause.
A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm Monday in the funeral home.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 2:00 pm until 10:00 pm Monday and will continue from 8:00 am until service time on Tuesday.
Pallbearers will be Todd Gaspard, Neil Meche, Chris J. Domingue, Jr., Edward Stein, Robert Stein, Mitchell Gaspard and Jake Domingue.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to members and staff of Hospice of Acadiana especially Suzanne Stelly, sitter Pat Landry, Delle David and Dr Paul Reese.
