He enlisted April 2, 1862 in Bienville Parish, Louisiana; however, another Muster Roll showed his enlistment date as March 8, 1862, in Mt. Lebanon. The June-July 1862 Company Muster Roll showed he was guarding prisoners at Richmond, Virginia. On October 31, 1864, he was temporarily transferred from Company C to Company H. His name appeared on a Roll of Prisoners of War after capture on April 3, 1865, while in the hospital in Richmond, Virginia - he was recovering from a wound. His name appeared on a register on August 1, 1865, as taking the oath of allegiance.
