Reynold Hunter Todtenbier “Ren”, age 62, passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2017. Ren went to be with the Lord while vacationing in Key West, Florida after a courageous battle with AL Amyloidosis. Ren was born in Covington, KY on December 1, 1954. Ren was a longtime resident of Natchitoches, Louisiana. Prior to making Natchitoches his home, Ren resided primarily in Anderson, Indiana. Ren was married on December 16, 1978 to Charla “Michele” Maggio Todtenbier; they were married for 38 years. They had one son; Ryan Edward Todtenbier of Natchitoches. Ren grew up in Anderson, Indiana prior to making Natchitoches, Louisiana his home in his mid teens. He attended Natchitoches Academy where he played football through his senior year and graduating in 1973. Ren attended LSU, then furthered his education at Northwestern State University graduating in 1977. Early in his career and shortly after his marriage to Michele, Ren served as a chaplain’s assistant in the Seventh Infantry Division of the United States Army; primarily in Germany where he and his wife resided during his military career. Upon returning to the United States, Ren served as a pastor in several small churches, operated Frisch’s Big Boy Restaurants with his family, and spent the last 16 years as a Humana Health Insurance Agent focusing on his passion for seniors and their healthcare needs. Ren was a genuine, friendly soul who loved the Lord and derived much joy while continuing his biblical studies over the last few years. Ren loved people, playing his guitar, singing, and keeping life simple. He loved his family. Ren will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by his family; especially his grandchildren which were his pride and joy in recent years. Ren is survived by his wife, Michele Maggio Todtenbier of Natchitoches; son, Ryan Edward Todtenbier and daughter-in-law Erika of Natchitoches; two grandchildren, Anna and Adam Todtenbier of Natchitoches; mother, Marjorie Schadler Todtenbier of Natchitoches; sisters, Linda Todtenbier and Beth St. Andre and husband, Dan; brothers, Dan Todtenbier and Jay Todtenbier; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He is preceded in death by his father, Reynold Edward Todtenbier; grandparents Alvin and Dorothy Schadler; and grandparents Evelyn and Count Rupert. The family would like to express our thanks for the wonderful care given by Donna Ackel, Jennifer Bayonne, and Joyce Fredieu and the staff at Fresenius Kidney Care Natchitoches; and our sincere thanks to Dr. Heather Landau at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, NY and to Dr. Raymond Comenzo at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, MA for their treatment and research of Amyloidosis. Visitation for family and friends will be held at the Immaculate Conception Church in Natchitoches on Monday, January 16, 2017, from noon until time of service at 2 p.m. with Father Blake Deshautelle officiating.
