"Love is patient, love is kind, love never fails." These words meant so much to Blanche Dayries Daigre who passed away at 7 pm on Saturday, March 7th in the OLOL emergency room. Blanche was a resident of Baton Rouge and a former resident of Port Allen and New Roads. She was 75 years old and had 55 wonderful years of marriage to her high school sweetheart, Jerry Daigre. Blanche and Jerry had four children, 13 grandchildren and a cat named Sassy. Blanche was very active at St. Thomas More School and Church. She served as a Eucharist Minister in church and gave communion to STM patients in the local hospitals. During the years when her children were in STM School, she served many years as Room Mother Chairman and Mission Day Chairman. For the last fifteen years, she served as chairman of her Manna Givers group she organized, bringing food to the homeless at St. Vincent de Paul. She was a member of the STM Church Bereavement Ministry and the 59ers Classmates Club of Port Allen High School. She loved to cook for her grandchildren and they will miss her pot roast, rice and gravy, and home-made french fries. Blanche is survived by her husband, Jerry; 3 daughters, Beth Robbins and boyfriend Nels Peterson of Baton Rouge; Laurie Knox and husband Kenneth of Kingwood, Texas; Amy Rabalais and husband Paul of Baton Rouge; and son, Jay Daigre and wife Christi of Katy, Texas. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Andrew, Taylor, Connor, William, and Anna Claire Rabalais of Baton Rouge; Kristen, Allison, and Caroline Knox of Kingwood, Texas; Megan and Ashley Robbins of Baton Rouge; and John Thomas, Timothy, and Sam Daigre of Katy, Texas. In addition, she is survived by brothers, John Dayries and wife Margaret of Missoula, MT; Leon Dayries of Shreveport; and Blaine Dayries and wife Deanie of Central. She leaves behind a very special friend, Janice Penton. She is preceded in death by her father, John L. Dayries, Sr.; mother, Lela Mae Dayries; and son, Gerard Wayne Daigre, Jr. Services will be held on Wednesday, March 11th at St. Thomas More Church, 11441 Goodwood Blvd. in Baton Rouge, with visitation from 10 am until Mass of Christian Burial at noon. Donations can be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph, Baton Rouge, LA.
