Martha
November 22, 1929 - December 30, 2020

Martha Muncy Talbot stepped into heaven and met Jesus in person on December 30th. A memorial service celebrating the life of Mrs. Talbot will be held at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Shreveport on Monday, January 11, 2021 after a private burial.
Martha was born November 22, 1929 to Reverend Amos and Nora Haley Muncy in Kensett, Arkansas. She was one of nine children, and was the last remaining survivor of her siblings. She attended Ouachita Baptist University where she met the love of her life, Sam Talbot. She was a schoolteacher for several years before marrying Sam on August 22, 1953. The two then continued their education at the University of Oklahoma. Shreveport became their home in 1954 where she became a full-time homemaker. They had two daughters, Nora Sue and Jennifer Lynn.
Martha had a fabulous gift of hospitality. When she met someone, she listened so intently that they felt as though they were the only person in the world. She loved to entertain family and friends in her home. She was a blessing to her children’s friends and made them feel so included and special. She was a wonderful cook and hostess who also loved to sew and needlepoint. Travel was one of her all-time favorite hobbies. She and Sam traveled the world extensively and made friends everywhere they went. Although her most cherished place was their time spent at their home in Pensacola Beach for many, many years.
First Baptist Church was her church home for over 60 years where she was involved in many ministries including working with youth and college students and serving on numerous committees. Other outlets of her giving back included the Salvation Army, the Geological Auxiliary, the Shreveport Symphony, the Cotillion Club, and the Demoiselle Club where she served as Ball Chairman, in addition to other civic organizations through the years.
Martha is survived by her husband Sam of 67 years, daughters Susie and husband Mike Tingle, and Jenny and husband Brian Flournoy. Her grandchildren include Nora Greer, Rebekah Gura and husband Dave, Martha Tingle, Alex Flournoy and wife Katelyn, Tallie Mabray and husband Wilson, Camille Flournoy and Russell Flournoy. She was also blessed with 8 great grandchildren: Haley, Grace, Sam and Nora Kate Greer, Avery and Georgia Gura, and Patton and Nena Mabray. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who all loved their many years of family reunions at Lake Ouachita.
The family would like to say a special thanks to Karen Demery for her years of dedicated service to the family and the staff at The Oaks of Louisiana North Pavilion and Regional Hospice who loved her well through this odd year of isolation.
The family requests that memorials be made to First Baptist Church, the Salvation Army or to the charity of your choice.
