SHREVEPORT, LA - Funeral services celebrating the life of Sybil Elizabeth Ellis Hamm will be held Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at Broadmoor Baptist Church Memorial Chapel. Officiating will be Dr. Scott L. Tatum, Dr. John Sullivan and Dr. Chuck Kelly.

The family will receive visitors from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Sybil Elizabeth Ellis Hamm was born November 26, 1926 in Thornton, Arkansas. Her early years were spent in Little Rock, Arkansas and attended the University of Arkansas where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. After meeting at the University of Arkansas, she was married to Bill Hamm in 1947.

Bill and Sybil committed their lives to Christ in 1951 at the Billy Graham Crusade held in Shreveport. Shortly after that life-changing event Bill and Sybil served as missionaries in Wiesbaden, Germany from 1954 to 1958 with the International Navigator Ministries. They returned to Shreveport where they served at Broadmoor Baptist Church. Sybil devoted her life to her husband her children and her church.
Sybil was preceded in death by her husband, William Meadows Hamm Jr.; her son, Stephen Eric Hamm; daughter-in-law, Sally Chandler Hamm; parents, Thomas Elmer Ellis and Virginia Elizabeth Bass Ellis; and brother, John Ellis and wife, Ejie.

Sybil is survived by her children, William Ellis Hamm and his wife, Linda, Susan Elizabeth Hamm, Dr. David Phillip Hamm and his wife, Suzanne and Dr. Jeffery Thomas Hamm and his wife, Tamara; grandchildren, Chris, Bill, Stephen, David, Laura, Jeffery, and Charlotte Hamm; great granddaughters, Abby, Wimberly, Sarah Kate, Addison and Blyss Hamm; and lifelong friend Agnes Carpenter.

Honorary pallbearers will be her Shang-Hai card group.

The family expresses gratitude to Dr. Larry Williams and all the members of the Circle of Love and Hope Widows Group which she helped start at Broadmoor Baptist Church. Memorials may be sent to the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
