Rodney, Pastor DURON

Forest Park East Cemetery
Caddo County,
Louisiana

April 19, 1924 - March 16, 2013

Pastor Rodney Duron, 88, of Shreveport, Louisiana, went home to be with the Lord on March 16, 2013, at his home in the arms of his loving wife. He was born April 19, 1924 in Hackberry, Louisiana to Marie Eva Breaux Doiron and Louis Doiron.

A dynamic young preacher, Rodney Duron and wife Frances, came to Shreveport, Louisiana in 1958, and agreed to take the senior pastorate at then First Assembly of God in Cedar Grove. Since that time, the congregation has grown from 50 to over 3,000 members and has relocated three times to accommodate the growth. Pastor Duron's vision for Christian education was made a reality in Evangel Christian Academy and its thousands of alumni since 1982. He is most known for the love he showed everyone he met and especially for his faithfulness to pray for any need at any time. Pastor Duron will be remembered as a man who faithfully walked the hallways of hospitals and brought hope to hopeless situations and peace in moments of mourning. He was a pastor to everyone, not just those in his congregation. Most of all, he loved Jesus more than life. His example has inspired many to follow Christ.

Pastor Duron was welcomed into heaven by his parents and twelve siblings as well as countless others who were impacted by his ministry of over 70 years. His legacy continues with his adoring wife, Frances Duron, his son Denny Duron and wife DeAnza, his seven grandchildren, Destiny Deas and husband Phillip, DawnChere Wilkerson and husband Rich, Denny Rodney Duron, Dez Duron, David Dee Duron, Dakota Duron, and Lucas London, one great-grandchild, Carolina Lee Deas, his nephew Casey Elledge who lived with him as a son from the time he was twelve, wife Beki, and his niece Stacy Richard, two grand nephews, three grand nieces, and one great niece. He is survived by numerous additional nieces and nephews, many of whom are in full time ministry, and by more friends and adopted sons and daughters than can be counted.

Visitation will be Monday, March 18, 2013 at 5:00pm at Shreveport Community Church, 5720 Buncombe Rd., Shreveport, Louisiana.

A celebration of Pastor Duron's life will be held at Tuesday, March 19, 4:00pm at Shreveport Community Church, 5720 Buncombe Rd., Shreveport, Louisiana, Rev. Denny Duron and Dr. Casey Elledge officiating. The graveside service will be a family only service.

Pallbearers will be Denny Rodney Duron, Dez Duron, David Dee Duron, Dakota Duron, Lucas London, Rich Wilkerson, Jr., and Phillip Deas. Honorary pallbearers will include the deacons of Shreveport Community Church (past and present), pastoral staff of Shreveport Community Church, Rusty Reeves, James Randolph, Dan Newman, David Logan, Charles Logan, Bill Gordon and Kenneth Elledge.

Special thanks to the pastoral staff of Community Church, Shreveport and Northpoint, Nettie Cooper, Sister Della Randolph, James Randolph and a host of others who have served and honored Pastor Duron through the years.

Pastor Rodney Duron's message to the world still holds true, "To God Be The Glory" and "The Best is Yet to Come."
