Obituary
Died-In Homer, on the 3rd inst., Mrs. Mary M. Otts, aged 42 years, 7 months and 23 days.

Death has no terrors to those whose hopes are anchored firmly to the saving truths of revealed religion. The subject of this notice professed religion when only eleven years of age, and at an early date joined the M.E. Church, South. She exemplified in her daily life the noble attributes of devoted Christian character.

Mrs. Mary Otts was fondly loved by all who knew her well. With the younger members of the large and influential family to which she belonged, the endearing appellation by which she was called was synonymous with love, kindness, purity and sweetness of disposition. Her closing hours were marked by every evidence of the most sincere faith and devotion. Life had been a pilgrimage whose goal was that Heavenly Home, full of joys and compensation to the Christian. Her closing hours were her happiest.

There is truth in the promises of the good book, and, believing this, the loved ones who mourn her loss find consolation in the thought that she is at rest with God beyond the pearly gates that open into everlasting life. She has left behind her a legacy richer by far than all the material wealth that has been gathered together by human agency. Her life was a beautiful example of profit and encouragement to the relatives and friends who remain.

May her gentle, loving soul rest in peace with the God she loved and served, and may the children who now weep for her loss find encouragement and solace in the thought that by living as she did the parting will be but temporary.
