He enlisted May 3, 1862, in Mansfield, DeSoto Parish, Louisiana. On November 3, 1863, the 11th Battalion Louisiana Infantry was consolidated with the Crescent Regiment Louisiana Infantry and the 16th Battalion Louisiana Infantry to form the Consolidated Crescent Regiment Louisiana Infantry. He was listed as the 5th Sergeant, Company B, Consolidated Crescent Regiment Louisiana Infantry. His name appeared on a Roll of Prisoners Of War after the Confederate Army surrendered in New Orleans, Louisiana, on May 26, 1865. He was paroled in Shreveport, Louisiana, on June 13, 1865.
