He was born in McNairy County, Tennessee. He enlisted May 14, 1862, at Monroe, Louisiana. His name appeared on a Roll of Prisoners Of War after Vicksburg, Mississippi capitulated on July 4, 1863. He was paroled at Vicksburg on July 9, 1863. His name later appeared on a Roll of Prisoners Of War on May 26, 1865, when the Confederate Army surrendered in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was paroled in Monroe, Louisiana on June 12, 1865.
