October 21, 1909 - June 15, 1977
William Crutcher Lee, Jr was born October 21, 1909 in Plaquenmine, Iberville Parish, Louisiana. He was son of William Crutcher Lee, Sr and Annie Garing. He spent his youth in Plaquemine, graduating from Plaquemine High School in 1927. He attended college at Louisiana State University where he played baseball among other sports. He married Amanda Fallon. In 1934 he was drafted by the Chicago Cubs as a right-handed pitcher. He remained with the Cubs until 1943. From 1943 to 1945 he played for the Philadelphia Phillies. From 1945 to 1946 he was with the Boston Braves and in 1947 he signed on with the Chicago Cubs. He developed detached retinas of the eyes and wore glasses for a short period while playing baseball, but eventually that same year he retired. He and his family moved back to Plaquemine where be became a successful businessman. He had a heart attack in 1976 and died June 15, 1977 in Iberville Parish, Louisiana. He is buried beside his wife, Amanda, in the Protestant Cemetery in Plaquemine, Louisiana.
