He enlisted March 8, 1862, in Claiborne Parish, Louisiana. The company muster roll reflected him as absent on May 17, 1863, but later changed to show him sick and in the Fort at Vicksburg, Mississippi. His name appeared on a Roll of Prisoners of War when he was captured at Vicksburg, Mississippi on July 4, 1863. He was paroled and sent home to Claiborne Parish, Louisiana. His name later appeared on a Roll of Prisoners of War when the Confederate Army surrendered in New Orleans, Louisiana, on May 26, 1865. He was paroled in Shreveport, Louisiana on June 17, 1865.
