Private Funeral Services were held Friday, January 19, 2018 in Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Esther Rush Ives, 86, who passed away January 15, 2018.
Burial took place in Lafayette Protestant Cemetery.
Mrs Ives, a resident of Lafayette, was the daughter of Chester Rush and the former Clara Benton. She graduated valedictorian from Lafayette High School, and UL-Lafayette (formerly SLI), with a B A in Spanish in 1952. She then attended Tulane University where she was given a fellowship in Middle America Research. After graduating from Tulane with a Masters degree, she worked in the foreign department of Whitney National Bank in New Orleans. She then won a Creole Petroleum Fellowship to study at the University of Caracas, Venezuela. For most of her career she worked as a foreign language interpreter at the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta. She was an active member of St Barnabas Anglican Church in Dunwoody, Georgia. Esther was very fond of her dogs, especially a pair of greyhounds she had rescued.
She is survived by sister Audrey Rush Kouloheris Powers; sisters-in-law Jeanette Rush and Bonnie Rush; nieces and nephews Jack Kouloheris, Annette Kouloheris Baird, Charles Rush, Gina Rush Calogero, James Rush, Jeanette Rush Alford, Robert Rush, Donna Rush Mayeux, David Rush, Lynn Rush Elston, Brian Rush and Timothy Rush.
She was preceded in death by parents; husband Bert R Ives; brothers Earl Rush, Morris Rush and Warren "Pete" Rush.
Pallbearers were Jack Kouloheris, David Rush, Brian Rush, Timothy Rush, Charles Rush, James Rush and Robert Rush.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to Acadiana Animal Aid.
