Funeral services for Sheldon Goldsholl, who passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, December 23, 2012, will be held at B'nai Zion Congregation, 245 Southfield Road on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. Officiating will be Rabbi Dr. Jana DeBenedetti. Interment will follow at the B'nai Zion section of Greenwood Cemetery on Stoner Avenue.

Sheldon was born in Chicago, Illinois on February 1, 1926 to Ruth and Albert Goldsholl. Mr. Goldsholl received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Centenary College in Shreveport, LA and a Masters of Arts degree from Louisiana Tech and a Masters of Liberal Arts from LSU Shreveport. He also studied for his Doctorate in Music at North Texas State University in Denton, TX.

As a young man, Sheldon played the violin with the New Orleans Symphony Orchestra. He then played with the Grant Park Symphony in Chicago, IL for several summers. Mr. Goldsholl later became the Concert Master of the Shreveport Symphony and of the Wichita Falls, Texas Symphony. During his tenures, Sheldon taught violin at Midwestern University, Centenary College and Grambling University. For many years Sheldon delighted his friends and various groups by presenting classical violin concerts at Centenary College, The Women's Department Club and The Petroleum Club. Next to his family, music was his love and passion.

Sheldon became an associate with Equitable Life in 1974 and remained a valued employee until his retirement in 1990. He was particularly proud of his work in establishing the Rose and Louie Van Thyn Holocaust Memorial Fund at Centenary College which provides education and knowledge about this period of history.

Sheldon was preceded in death by Ruth (Mother), and Albert (Father) Goldsholl and Rashi Kaplan (Sister). He is survived by his beloved wife Rochelle who together, shared 62 years of a beautiful, fulfilling marriage; by his loving children and their spouses, Ellen Goldsholl Rayner and Harry Rayner, David Goldsholl and Cherry Landfair Goldsholl, Scot Goldsholl and Kennon Goldsholl and Michael Goldsholl; and by his loving grandchildren, Alex Rayner, Benjamin Rayner, David Rayner, Sara Goldsholl, Jacob Goldsholl, Leah Goldsholl and Caroline Goldsholl. Sheldon adored his children and grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers will be Sheldon's grandsons, Alex Rayner, Benjamin Rayner, David Rayner, Jacob Goldsholl, and friends, Kyle Pierce and Ernest Palmisano.

A special thanks to Susan Teague, Kyle Pierce, Dee McCoy and Janice Alexander for their kindness and concern during the past month.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Congregation B'nai Zion, Hadassah, or the charity of donor's choice.
