"What practice however expect,
In putting aptest words to things
Or voice the richest tone that sings
Has power to give thee as thou art."
To the stricken family we apologize for intruding upon the sacred calm of their woe and mourning, yet it is but just that a character so unexceptional should be commemorated.
After a long and lingering illness, which was borne with christian fortitude and composure, death relieved her suffering and God called her home to eternal rest the soul of the dear and affectionate wife, fond and loving mother, devout and triumphant Christian Sister, and our quite village cemetery has summoned to its bosom a lifeless sleeping clay the casket that contains her loved and honored remains.
Her Christian life was one worthy of example, and her whole life as such was characteristic of deep piety, always giving all honor to her Blessed Savior and His cause, She was peculiarly blessed with an evangelizing influence, and by untiring energy and prayers she succeeded, when almost all hope for a continuance of a Baptist organization in Homer was gone, to have conference of three last male members at her house, and by her earnest opportunities and irresistible argument's succeeded in defeating a proposition to disband, and her electric influence as a Christian moved from street to street and from house to house until she saw old Homer Baptist Church restored, exalted, and the evangelism proclaimed and expanded with force, and the Holy songs of Zion once more broke the silence of its sacred walls. She soon saw the happy realization of her prayers and labour for her church, family and friends, in which blessed state of profound thankfulness she served the balance of her afflicted days in the serenity of mature age.
As a companion to the aged and bereft husband she was for more then half a century all that love, affection and purity could be:as a mother, her tender solitude was inexpressible and her children's appreciation of the same is evidenced by their deep and solid grief in the loss of their greatest earthly friend. Her general demeanor was quiet and her deposition queenly, her love was without decimation and her charity unbounded.
Departed sister at your grave we bow in humble submission to the Christian mother saved spirit to attend the benefit of mourning one as a guardian angel while we move upon earth and guide us to that blessed abode after death.
