He enlisted December 11, 1861, at Camp Moore, Louisiana. He was detailed with extra duty as Wagon Master from January 8, 1862, until July 31, 1862. He remained present for duty until he was wounded at the battle of Chickamauga, Georgia, on September 20, 1863. He was admitted to the Floyd House & Ocmulgee Hospitals in Macon, Georgia, on September 27, 1863, and given a 30-day furlough on September 28, 1863. His name appeared on the Company Muster Roll for November-December 1863 as present for duty. On May 15, 1864, he was wounded at Resaca, Georgia and sent to the hospital in Forsythe, Georgia.
