Services for Joseph Lee "Joe" Mays, 77, of Vidalia, Louisiana will be held Saturday, July 31, 2010 at 11:00am from Union Baptist Church in Vidalia. Burial will follow at the Vidalia Cemetery with Reverend Carl Smith officiating.
Mr Mays, son of Dan and Calena Henderson Mays was born in Ferriday, Louisiana and died at Natchez Regional Medical Center from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was retired from the US Air Force with twenty years of service; retired from the City of Vidalia as a Water & Sewer supervisor. He was a member of the Pride of Vidalia #106 Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Margaret Gray Mays; sons, Dariel Brown Mays and Kadrick Johnson of Vidalia; Kelvin Mays, Sr and wife Lisa of Tallulah, Louisiana; daughters Sylvia Jordan and Sharon Stewart (Gary) of Vidalia; brother Willie Mays, Sr; sister, Rosie L Hagans both of Ferriday; eighteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; god children Melvin Knight, Sr of Vicksburg, Mississippi; Vernell Hays, Jr of New Orleans, Louisiana, a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
